Updated guidance:
NOT-OD-25-133 Effective October 1, 2025, NIH will require institutions to provide training to all Senior/Key Personnel on how to properly disclose all research activities and affiliations in the Other Support section of grant applications. This training must be part of a written and enforced institutional policy to ensure researchers understand the full scope of what must be disclosed, including non-monetary and non-institutional support.
Policy
UC Office of the President confirmed APM-025 policy requires UC academic appointees participating in federally funded projects to comply with federal funding agency requirements governing research contracts and grants, including disclosures. UC Research Policy Analysis and Coordination (RPAC) drafted language to include in the Contracts and Grants Manual for all other individuals who may be Senior/Key Personnel on a project but not represented in the list of individuals noted in APM-025.
Process
The Other Support training certifications/diplomas will be required for each Senior Key Personnel for Just in Time (JIT) stage or Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR), applications (such as K series) and other support requests submitted on or after October 1, 2025.
Qualifying trainings that completes this requirement are accessed in the UC Learning Center for UCSF Personnel:
- Updated Research Security Training at the University of California module (RST) (updated September 22) started on or after September 23, 2025, or
- Ethics Compliance Briefing for Researchers Training (ECBR)
For NIH JIT, RPPR, applications (such as K series) and other support requests, the completed certification/diploma from one of the training options above for each Senior Key Personnel at UCSF. The training diploma must be associated with the correct name and have a completion date, (with the exception of the UCOP RST, which must be started on or after September 23, 2025).

For NIH submissions on or after May 25, 2026 Research Security Training will satisfy Other Support Training Requirement and NIH Research Security Training Requirement if completed on or after September 23, 2025.
